Christian Horner Fired from Red Bull

Why was Christian Horner fired? It quickly became a trending search on Google following his dismissal from Red Bull Racing, which has triggered a shockwave in the world of Formula 1. Once one of the most influential figures in motorsport, Horner not only lost his position after 20 years of success, but did so amid a whirlwind of scandals and under the threat of losing Max Verstappen, the top driver in the sport today.

Why was Christian Horner fired from Red Bull?

Although Red Bull did not provide an official explanation for the firing of Chris Horner, all signs point to a combination of internal conflicts, declining performance, and a scandal involving inappropriate behavior that ultimately destroyed his reputation.

In February 2024, the then-team principal was accused by a Red Bull employee of inappropriate conduct. Although he was cleared after an internal investigation, alleged intimate messages were leaked and circulated among top F1 executives via Google Drive. The company refused to comment publicly, but the damage to his image was done. Months later, in July 2025, Horner was abruptly fired.

Beyond the scandal, tensions with the Verstappen family became unsustainable. Jos Verstappen, father of four-time world champion Max Verstappen, openly criticized Horner and even warned that the team could “implode” if he remained in charge. All this while rumors grew that Max could move to Mercedes in 2026.

Additionally, Red Bull Racing’s performance has nosedived one year after the departure of Mexican driver Sergio Pérez: from dominating in 2023 with 19 wins from Max, to dropping to fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship in 2025. The car ceased to be competitive, and the exit of technical genius Adrian Newey further weakened the team.

Of the team’s current 172 points, 165 have been scored solely by Verstappen. Neither Yuki Tsunoda nor Liam Lawson managed to score in recent races, and Sergio “Checo” Pérez is no longer part of the team after failing to renew his contract at the end of 2024.

Who will replace Christian Horner as Red Bull Racing team principal?

Laurent Mekies, formerly with sister team Racing Bulls, has been appointed as the new team principal. His mission won’t be easy: he must regain Verstappen’s trust, restructure the technical team, and stabilize the organization.

Who is Chris Horner’s wife?

Geri Halliwell, former Spice Girls member, whom he married in 2015. Their marriage turned him into a celebrity beyond the paddock. She used to accompany him to Grand Prix events and played a key role in solidifying his public image.

After the leaked messages scandal, many questioned whether the relationship would survive. While Geri remained on the sidelines, sources close to the couple claim her public support for Horner has been less visible in recent appearances.

Why did Christian Horner leave Red Bull after so many years of success?

Christian Horner’s legacy at Red Bull Racing is unquestionable: eight drivers’ championships (four with Sebastian Vettel and four with Max Verstappen), six constructors’ titles, 124 Grand Prix wins, 107 pole positions, and 287 podium finishes. Beyond his achievements, he was a visionary: he founded Arden International at just 25 and discovered talents who reshaped modern F1.

However, his combative style, media presence, and accumulation of internal controversies gradually eroded his authority. As often happens in Formula 1, a single moment can change everything… and Horner went from emperor to exile.

Christian Horner Net Worth: How much is the former Red Bull director worth?

According to updated estimates, Christian Horner has a net worth of $50 million. His wealth stems from his long career as a team principal, business deals, sponsorships, and media appearances.

In addition, his personal brand has opened doors beyond motorsport, particularly in the UK, where he is a regular at galas and film premieres. The most recent: the screening of the movie “Ferrari,” where he appeared alongside Geri Halliwell.
