It’s over! The story of Carrie Bradshaw has come to an end, as And Just Like That was canceled after its third season, which is currently airing on HBO. The series received major criticism during its run, but why was it canceled? Here’s everything we know about it.
Why was And Just Like That canceled?
The news was confirmed on Friday, August 1, by showrunner Michael Patrick King, who said that while writing the final episode of the third season, he realized it could serve as a great ending for the series.
Because of this, he decided to write the season 3 finale in two parts, to bring closure to the story led by Sarah Jessica Parker. According to King, the decision to end the show wasn’t made overnight; however, the announcement was held until after season three premiered, to avoid having the word “finale” overshadow everything else.

What is And Just Like That about?
And Just Like That is a sequel to the iconic series Sex and the City, continuing the journey of three of its protagonists —Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York— years after the original events. Set in present-day New York, the series explores how these women face life in their 50s in a world that has changed just as much as they have.
Through new relationships, professional dilemmas, and personal transformations, the story highlights how friendship, love, and identity are redefined in adulthood. Carrie copes with loss, emotional rebirth, and finding her place in today’s culture. Miranda questions her family life, convictions, and sexuality. Charlotte, meanwhile, tries to balance motherhood, marriage, and her own evolution.
More than just a continuation, the series is a modern take on growing older, told with the same elegance, irony, and heart that defined the original show, now with a more inclusive and updated perspective.
