A second boycott against Walmart has begun in the United States. The protest, organized by the group known as People’s Union USA, will last for several days, and they have called on consumers not to shop at the chain’s stores. Here’s why this boycott is happening and everything we know about it.
Why was the Walmart boycott organized?
The Walmart boycott comes after the supermarket chain decided to end its diversity programs in 2024 by canceling the funding for its racial equity center, suspending training on this topic, and halting its participation in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
This move was not well received by some organizations, such as People’s Union USA, which also accused Walmart of corporate greed and political corruption, and of becoming a symbol of all the mistakes within corporate power in the country.

What days will the Walmart boycott take place?
According to John Schwarz, founder of People’s Union USA, the boycott will take place from May 20 to May 26. However, the protest doesn’t end there, as another boycott is expected on July 4 against Walmart and other companies.
Which Walmart stores are included in the boycott?
According to People’s Union USA, the boycott includes all stores and brands under the corporation, such as:
- Walmart stores: Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, Sam’s Club and Sam’s Club gas stations.
- Online purchases: Walmart website, Walmart+ subscription, and delivery services.
- Walmart brands: Great Value, Equate, Mainstays, George, and Parent’s Choice.
How will the boycott affect Walmart?
On February 28th, Walmart also faced a boycott that led to a 9% drop in online store traffic and a 5% decline in physical store visits. It is expected that this boycott will also cause a significant drop in sales.
Upcoming scheduled boycotts in the United States
The Walmart boycott will not be the only one in the United States, as People’s Union USA has posted a schedule of planned economic protests on its website for the coming months, which includes major companies such as Amazon, McDonald’s, and General Mills. What is People’s Union USA?
People’s Union USA presents itself on its website as a grassroots movement dedicated to promoting economic resistance, justice for the working class, and corporate accountability. Unlike a political party, this movement seeks to represent all people, regardless of their background, beliefs, or political affiliation.
Its main goal is to unite ordinary citizens in the fight against greed and corruption, which it claims have caused division, distraction, and hardship among the population for decades. More than a partisan organization, People’s Union USA defines itself as an inclusive platform that aims to empower people in the face of economic power abuses. Its core message appeals to unity, the dignity of labor, and the need for real change that benefits those who have historically been marginalized by the dominant economic system.

Currently, the supermarket chain has over 4,500 stores in the United States. The state with the most Walmart locations is Texas, with a total of 514 stores, representing about 11% of the company’s stores in the country.
