Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, the leading amusement park operator in North America, announced that this year it will be closing Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor. The company plans to sell the property as part of a renovation and transformation initiative. If you have an annual pass or frequently visit these parks, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming closure.

When will Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor close?

According to a company statement, the parks, located in Bowie, Maryland, will permanently close after the 2025 season. The final day of operation is scheduled for Sunday, November 2.

Why is Six Flags closing?

Richard A. Zimmerman, President and CEO of Six Flags, explained that the closure follows a comprehensive review of the company’s portfolio. The analysis concluded that both Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor no longer align with the company’s long-term growth strategy. As a result, the decision was made to put the property up for sale and begin a redevelopment process.

The company confirmed that all 2025 season passes and tickets will remain valid until the park’s final day of operation.

History of Six Flags America

Six Flags America is a theme park located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It was originally built on the grounds of what was once a wildlife preserve known as Adventure World. The name “America” reflects its proximity to Washington D.C., the nation’s capital.

The park initially opened under the name Wild World. In 1993, it was renamed Adventure World. In 1997, it temporarily took the name The Great Escape, similar to other Premier Parks properties, but changed again a year later to The Thrill Park. Finally, in the 1999 season, it was rebranded as Six Flags America and underwent significant expansion.

How much is admission to Six Flags?

According to the company’s website, a daily ticket costs $29. However, frequent visitors can purchase a season pass that includes unlimited entry, free parking, and other perks. There are three season pass options:

Silver Pass ($79)

  • Unlimited visits
  • Valid for most of the 2025 season (blackout dates apply)
  • General parking
  • 10% discount on food and merchandise

Gold Pass ($94)

  • Unlimited access to Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, Maryland
  • Valid for the entire 2025 season
  • General parking
  • 10% discount on food and merchandise

Prestige Pass ($150)

  • Unlimited access to Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, Maryland
  • Valid for the entire 2025 season
  • Preferred parking
  • 15% discount on food and merchandise

You can also upgrade your Gold or Prestige Pass and/or Membership with the All Park Pass add-on. This extension allows your Six Flags pass to be valid at all legacy parks. Additionally, your favorite Gold and Prestige Pass benefits are redeemable at other parks as well.
