The video game is known for its dual narrative structure, alternating between the experiences of Ellie and Abby, allowing for a deeper and more balanced exploration of their personal struggles and moral dilemmas.
Since the TV adaptation has so far prioritized Ellie’s perspective, it’s anticipated that Season 3 will shift focus toward Abby, providing a closer look at her story, emotions, and character development. Her arc includes key moments such as her relationship with Owen, internal tensions within the WLF (the Washington Liberation Front), and her path to redemption after meeting Lev and Yara, two young runaways from the Seraphites, a radical religious cult.
Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the video game and the series, explained that some elements of the game were reorganized in the show to better suit the TV format, including the early introduction of Abby.
Additionally, new visual and action elements from the game are expected to be incorporated, such as the terrifying Rat King, a monstrous infected creature that marks one of the game’s most shocking moments.
