What is a Slurpee?
The Slurpee is a frozen, carbonated beverage sold exclusively at 7-Eleven stores. It has a smooth, slushy consistency created by combining ice with flavored liquid, usually with fruity or soda-inspired flavors.
Origin of the Slurpee
The Slurpee, 7-Eleven’s iconic frozen drink, was born from a lucky accident in the 1950s. Omar Knedlik, a Dairy Queen owner, chilled sodas in a freezer after his soda machine broke, resulting in a slushy texture that customers loved. In 1965, 7-Eleven purchased the machines from The Icee Company and created the Slurpee. The name comes from the slurping sound made when drinking it through a straw.
