One of the victims of the accident stated that the incident was caused by a collision with another train.

On social media, videos and photos of the Tren Maya accident are circulating; the clips have already gone viral, and on Google, the topic has become a search trend.

In one of the videos, one of the victims of the accident narrates what happened: “The carriage we were in derailed, it is the one that is tilted (…). Another train hit us, it entered our path and diverted this train. It seems there are no deaths, but it is a real disaster.”

The Tren Maya is a project that generated much controversy in Mexico, as it was built with cost overruns. In addition, there has been a series of criticisms because jungles and natural areas were cleared for its construction, which was carried out by military engineers of the Mexican Army.
