Michelle Deignan, Vice President of Oreo in the United States, explained the strategic background of this collaboration: “Connecting with Selena’s world—her cultural roots, her loyal fan base, her musical journey—elevates the cultural relevance and playful personality of the brand.” This collaboration represents another step in Oreo’s efforts to reach new audiences through unexpected experiences that go beyond flavor.

What is the new Oreo flavor created by Selena Gomez?

The new flavor is called Selena Gomez OREO Cookies and represents a direct collaboration between the singer-actress and the iconic cookie brand. This release features a completely innovative flavor profile: a fusion of chocolate and cinnamon with a sweetened condensed milk base and cinnamon sugar inclusions, all sandwiched between two chocolate-cinnamon flavored wafers.

Selena drew inspiration from her love for horchata, a traditional Latin beverage, to bring this recipe to life. “I wanted it to feel comforting and have a bit of nostalgia from my childhood. The cinnamon flavor gives it this horchata feel, and I’m excited for my fans to try it,” said the artist in the official announcement.

Who invented Oreo cookies?

Oreo cookies were created in 1912 by the American company National Biscuit Company, better known as Nabisco.

At that time, the company aimed to compete with Hydrox, a very popular cookie created by Sunshine Biscuits in 1908. Although Oreo was originally a copy of Hydrox, it quickly surpassed its competitor and established itself as the favorite among consumers.

William Turnier, a Nabisco designer, was responsible for creating the iconic design of the cookies in 1952, which remains in use today.

History of Oreo

The first Oreo cookie was sold on March 6, 1912, in a store in Hoboken, New Jersey. Initially marketed as “Oreo Biscuit,” the name changed several times over the years.

In 1921, it became known as “Oreo Sandwich”, and in 1948 it was rebranded as “Oreo Creme Sandwich”. The current design, which includes the Nabisco logo and decorative symbols, was introduced in 1952 and has remained largely unchanged ever since.

OREO, a brand of Mondelēz International, is America’s favorite cookie, sold in over 100 countries with more than 500 billion units sold since its creation in 1912.

Each year, more than 60 billion cookies are sold, and 20 billion of those are sold in the United States alone.

What does the word Oreo mean in Spanish?

The origin of the word “Oreo” remains a mystery. There are several theories about its meaning. Some believe it comes from the French word “or,” meaning gold, in reference to the golden color of the first cookie packages.

Others suggest it derives from the Greek word “oreo,” which translates as beautiful or nice. Another theory is that the name was simply chosen because it was short, easy to pronounce, and catchy.

Whatever its origin, the name has been etched into history as a synonym for a delicious and universally beloved cookie.
