The world of electronic music was rocked this Wednesday afternoon as the main stage of Tomorrowland 2025, one of the most prestigious festivals globally, caught fire. The festival, hosted annually in Boom, Belgium, was only two days away from welcoming thousands of fans when flames engulfed its iconic main stage.

How Did the Tomorrowland 2025 Stage Fire Start?
At the time of writing, the cause of the blaze remains unknown. Debby Wilmsen, the festival’s press officer, confirmed that emergency services responded quickly and managed to extinguish the flames shortly after 7:30 PM local time. However, the intricate decorations that adorned the stage, themed this year as “The World of Orbyz,” were mostly destroyed.
Local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the origin of the fire. “We still don’t know how the fire started. The emergency services are on-site and will keep us updated,” Wilmsen stated to the press.
Were There Any Injuries Reported From the Fire?
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Around 1,000 workers were present at the festival grounds, busy with the final preparations ahead of Friday’s scheduled opening. So far, there is no indication that any of the crew members were harmed during the incident.
In addition, local police confirmed that no festival-goers were present at the time. Tomorrowland is set to host more than 70,000 attendees daily, and the absence of the crowd significantly reduced potential risks.
What Measures Did Authorities Take During the Incident?
Local police officially declared the fire around 6 PM. Authorities in the neighboring municipality of Rumst issued a precautionary alert, advising residents to keep doors, windows, and ventilation systems shut if they experienced discomfort due to the smoke.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions during the fire. Several videos shared on social media captured intense flames and fireworks erupting unintentionally over the stage structure, which added to the spectacle and alarm of the moment.
What Was the Size of the Tomorrowland 2025 Main Stage?
Though the festival has not officially disclosed the dimensions of this year’s stage, last year’s design measured approximately 36 meters high and 160 meters wide. The Tomorrowland main stage is renowned for its grandeur, elaborate themes, and immersive experiences that blend art, technology, and music.
This year’s theme, “The World of Orbyz,” was expected to deliver a magical, ice-universe inspired environment. Sadly, much of the artistic installation was reduced to charred remains following the incident.
Will Tomorrowland 2025 Proceed as Scheduled?
As of now, there is no official confirmation on whether the festival will proceed as planned. The first weekend of performances was set to begin this Friday, July 18, and run through Sunday, with a continuation slated for the following weekend.
Some of the headline artists included global electronic music icons like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The organizers have yet to announce if the damage to the main stage will impact the event’s schedule or logistics.
