This latest move signifies a notable shift for Netflix, which has traditionally refrained from making significant investments in live sports rights, choosing instead to focus on sports-related programming, such as their immensely popular docuseries, “Drive to Survive,” centered around Formula One.

Netflix is about to make its debut in the world of live sports events with the upcoming “Netflix Cup” celebrity golf tournament. This unique event will bring together drivers from “Drive to Survive” and professionals from the PGA Tour’s “Full Swing” docuseries for an exciting match play tournament, set to unfold just ahead of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

However, diving into the world of boxing, particularly with prominent figures like Jake Paul, represents a significant escalation. Premier Boxing Champions, home to renowned fighters like Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, is currently searching for a new broadcast partner following Paramount+ Showtime Sports‘ closure

Jake Paul, although signed up for two more fights with DAZN, has already been featured in a Netflix documentary, a testament to his widespread appeal, which could make him an attractive candidate for live boxing events on the platform.

Netflix‘s interest in live boxing coincides with its strong performance in the third quarter of 2023, having added a remarkable nine million subscribers, bringing its total to 247 million. This surge in subscriptions, coupled with adjustments to non-ad-supported pricing plans, has boosted the company’s quarterly revenues to $8.54 billion, contributing to a substantial 20% year-on-year increase in profit, which now stands at $1.68 billion.
