The Korean series Squid Game arrived on Netflix and became a true phenomenon. With the release of its third and final season, many fans are left wanting more. The good news is there’s a possibility of a spin-off, but while that happens, how about trying one of the games from the series? Here’s how to play Squid Game and everything you need to know to recreate the story.
How do you play Squid Game? Rules
Over the course of three seasons, the players faced deadly versions of Korean children’s games, where losing means death. Each challenge tests the players’ cleverness, luck, and emotional resilience as they fight to win the prize money. These are the games by season and the rules to play them.

What are the games in Squid Game Season 1?
- Ddakji: Two players take turns throwing folded paper tiles to try to flip the opponent’s tile. In the series, the Recruiter offers Gi-hun 100,000 won for each win but slaps him for each loss, since Gi-hun has no money to pay.
- Red Light, Green Light: Players must run when the doll Young-hee says “Green light” and stop immediately at “Red light.” Any detected movement after the signal results in elimination. They have five minutes to cross the field.
- Dalgona: Players choose a shape (circle, triangle, star, or umbrella) and receive a candy with that shape in the center. The challenge is to cut out the shape without breaking the candy, using only a needle and within 10 minutes.
- Tug of War: Teams of 10 must pull their opponents off elevated platforms. The losing team falls when a guillotine cuts the rope.
- Marbles: Each pair competes in a free-style marble game with 10 marbles each. The goal: end up with all 20 in 30 minutes.
- Glass Bridge: Players must cross a bridge with 18 glass panels. Only one in each pair is tempered; the other shatters when stepped on. They have 16 minutes to reach the end without falling.
- Squid Game: On a court shaped like a squid, the attacking team must advance by hopping on one foot while the defenders try to stop them. The winner is the one who reaches the squid’s head without being eliminated.
What are the games in Squid Game Season 2?
- Minus-One Rock, Paper, Scissors: Each player uses both hands to show two symbols, then chooses one hand to remove, leaving the other as their final play. The round follows traditional rules: rock beats scissors, scissors cuts paper, paper wraps rock.
- Russian Roulette: This dangerous game first appears when the Recruiter spins the revolver’s chamber after every shot, giving a 5-in-6 chance of survival. Later, the chamber is only spun at the beginning. Players take turns shooting; risk increases with each attempt.
- Pentathlon: A relay race made up of five mini-games. Each team of five players must complete the following challenges in five minutes:

- Flying Rock: Knock a rock off a base line; if you miss, your team moves back.
- Gong-gi: Catch dice in mid-air, ending with all dice on the back of your hand.
- Top: Make a top spin successfully; if not, repeat.
- Jegi: Kick a jegi five times in a row without dropping it.
- Mingle: On a spinning platform, players must group themselves according to an announced number. Incorrect groupings or those left out are eliminated. The pressure rises with each new round.

What are the games in Squid Game Season 3?
- Hide and Seek: Players are given gum to assign their role. Blue are Hiders, red are Seekers. Both enter a maze with 30 minutes to complete objectives. Hiders must hide or escape; Seekers must eliminate at least one opponent or be eliminated themselves. Players may switch roles before starting. Hiders receive keys; Seekers get knives.
- Jump Rope: Players must cross a platform while dodging a massive rotating rope. If they fall or fail to complete it within 20 minutes, they are eliminated.
- Sky Squid Game: On towers shaped like the original game (square, triangle, circle), players must push others off to advance. If no one falls before time runs out, everyone dies.
Will there be a Squid Game Season 4?
The ending of the third season was left open, suggesting a potential new season. In the final episode, the story jumps ahead a few days and is no longer set in South Korea, but in the United States, where Gi-hun’s daughter now lives. The Leader hands her the money left by her deceased father. The baby is left in the care of the detective.
It all seemed to indicate that the games were over… until the distinctive sound of the ddakji game is heard in the street. The Leader, already driving away, opens his car window and watches a new recruiter (none other than Cate Blanchett) playing (and slapping) a potential new player—revealing that the games were never truly destroyed.
This strongly suggests a fourth season. But before you get too excited, we’re sorry to tell you that Netflix has already confirmed this was the final season and there will be no more episodes of the Korean series. However, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, said a spin-off is possible and currently in discussions.
