Why did Bed Bath & Beyond file for bankruptcy?
In 2023, the well-known home goods retailer faced one of its most severe crises after failing to secure the necessary funding to keep operating. In response, the company decided to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, seeking a restructuring to manage its financial commitments.
As part of the process, the company launched a liquidation sale to reduce inventory and obtain funds to cover part of its debts. The official filing was made in a New Jersey district court, where it reported assets and liabilities estimated between $1 billion and $10 billion, reflecting the scale of the financial challenges it faced.
