Elon Musk drops bombshell lawsuit against tech giant Microsoft

Microsoft declined to comment on the matter, leaving many to speculate about the company's position on the use of Twitter data.

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, has set his sights on a new target: Microsoft. Musk recently threatened to sue the tech giant for allegedly using Twitter data without permission. While the details of the case are still unclear, it appears to stem from OpenAI’s use of Twitter data to train its large language model, which powers products like ChatGPT.

Microsoft recently dropped Twitter from its corporate advertising platform, reportedly due to Twitter’s changes that require payment to access its API. This move may have triggered Musk‘s threat, as he appears to be concerned that OpenAI is now unable to use Twitter data for training purposes.

It is worth noting that OpenAI is not Microsoft, but the company did recently invest heavily in the AI research firm. Microsoft is building AI into its various tools, including Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365, and it’s possible that OpenAI’s work with Twitter data could have implications for these products.

At this point, it is unclear whether Musk will follow through on his threat to sue Microsoft. The billionaire has a history of making legal threats that never materialize, including against the creator of the @ElonJet Twitter account.

Microsoft declined to comment on the matter, leaving many to speculate about the company’s position on the use of Twitter data. Meanwhile, Twitter no longer has a press office and responds to journalists’ inquiries with a poop emoji.

As the battle over Twitter data continues to heat up, it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. Will Musk take legal action against Microsoft, or will this threat fizzle out like so many others before it? Only time will tell.
